They are Dr. Ir Akhmad Endang Zainal Hasan, MSi, Prof. Khaswar Syamsu and Dr. Dimas Andrianto, MSi. This training is part of the dedication of IPB University lecturers in the 2022 Lecturer Returns to Village scheme.
The head of the IPB University Lecturer Service Team in Cemplang Village, Dr. Akhmad said that this training was attended by the heads of RT and RW as well as youth organizations.
This activity aims to provide participants with skills on how to make and process coffee beans into delicious and halal ground coffee.
“The training to make ground coffee was chosen because in Cemplang Village, many people plant coffee trees, especially those planted as fences in their gardens. In the Ciomas District area, a lot of coffee is grown from the Robusta and Arabica types,” he said.
According to him, so far the coffee cherries are sold as fresh coffee cherries or raw coffee beans to the market or middlemen.
In fact, if ground coffee is made, it can provide added value and create jobs for the community, especially the youth and village farmers.
In this training, participants are taught to choose the right type of coffee and coffee cherries, enough ripeness, sorting, fermentation and drying are good so that the dried coffee beans are ready for roasting.
“We also provide some ready-to-roast coffee, a roaster, a roasted coffee grinder and a ready-to-drink coffee tool. We also conduct a panelist test to see the public's interest in the results of the processed ground coffee," he added.
In addition to processing, participants also received materials about marketing, both online and offline.
"In this way, it is hoped that they will become successful entrepreneurs in processing coffee to be marketed for the global market," he said.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the Ciomas Camat, Iroh Masruroh said, “We really support the activities held by IPB University lecturers. Hopefully after participating in this training activity, Cemplang Village will not only be known as a supplier of coffee beans, but also be able to produce quality ground coffee.”
Cemplang Village Head, Agus added that this activity can increase the income of farmers in the area.
“This training is very useful for us. We understand how to handle coffee so that it becomes a quality product. We are also excited to become entrepreneurs of ground coffee, because we heard firsthand the success of IPB University in making coffee an export commodity and marketed globally," said Agus.***
